Frequently asked questions
What counts as a license key?
Every key you generate for one of your products counts toward your plan's active-license limit while its status is Active. Revoked or expired keys don't count against your limit.
What happens when I reach my allowance?
You won't be able to create new licenses until you free up room — by revoking unused ones — or upgrade to a plan with a higher limit.
Can I upgrade at any time?
Yes. Upgrading takes effect as soon as your payment confirms.
Can I downgrade?
Yes, at any time.
What happens to my existing licenses if I downgrade?
They keep working. If you're over the new plan's limit, you just won't be able to create new licenses until your active count is back under it.
Are licenses hardware locked?
Optionally. You choose a seat limit per license — each seat binds to a device or account identifier the first time it activates.
Can I revoke licenses?
Yes, instantly, from your dashboard. A revoked license stops validating immediately.
How does validation work?
Your software calls LicenseFort's validation endpoint at startup with the license key and a device identifier. LicenseFort checks status, expiry, and seat limits, and responds valid or not.
Is there a limit on how often my software can check in?
No. License checks are unlimited on every plan — your plan's cap is on active license keys, not on how many times your customers' software validates them. A customer opening their terminal ten times a day never counts against anything.
How are subscriptions paid?
By card, PayPal, and other regional methods through Paddle — our payment provider and merchant of record, handling tax and compliance for you — billed monthly or annually. Prefer crypto? That's available too, via NowPayments, billed monthly.
What happens to my customers if LicenseFort is ever unreachable?
Each product has a configurable offline-grace window (default 72 hours, adjustable 0-720 in Dashboard → Products). A device that already validated successfully keeps working until that window expires instead of being locked out the moment we're unreachable — enforced by the Protect Software wizard and every official SDK.
